Question: When did the first human being leave the Earth?

Answer: April 12th, 1961.

Yuri Gagarin was born in Russia in 1934. He was a talented pilot and was selected to be the first human to fly into outer space. His flight around the Earth lasted 108 minutes – about as long as a feature film in the cinema!

What I really like about the name Yuri Gagarin is the sound of it. It sort of bounces in your mouth. It sounds especially good if you repeat it. That was the start of this poem. We hope you enjoy it …
