I’m the Captain of My Ships (My Shoes)
Pictures inspire Words inspire Pictures
Sometimes a picture can inspire a poem. This poem was inspired by a picture on Twitter. The author Giles Paley-Phillips posted a picture of his staircase. It was decorated with maps. It made me think of a captain of a ship navigating through the waters and checking his or her map.
I’m still loving our stairs that my wife decorated with some lovely old maps pic.twitter.com/0voUsoyBXI

Then I thought about a child pretending they were sailing a ship, playing in their house. For some reason I imagined this all taking place in the house my Auntie and Uncle used to live in when I was a boy.
Once the poem was finished I gave it to Wilm who drew this beautiful illustration.
